Saturday 29th February 2020 marks the third annual Abu Dhabi Teachers Conference, this year the event will be held at Brighton College Abu Dhabi. It’s a free event for teachers, organised by teachers!

A key facet to a thriving education system is collaboration, both internally and externally across schools. As the event has grown, so too has its collaboration in a wider context. The event now sees five schools working in unison to bring an exciting professional development opportunity to the region once again. British School Al Khubairat, British International School Abu Dhabi, Brighton College, Cranleigh and Al Yasmina are the driving force behind this years collaboration. It is important to note that there are many speakers from other schools across the region too.

It is often cited that a lack of a true professional learning community is one of the challenges teachers face when trying to effectively collaborate, along with the constraints of time to reflect upon their learning. Having only been in Abu Dhabi for just over one year, what is prevalent in the region is that teachers are willing to come together to share ideas, resources, information and expertise so that learning for educators is more accessible and can be transferred to our classrooms for the benefit of all of our students.

This year’s event will have five strands of professional learning, delivered by practicing educators from across the region. The strands are:

  • Leadership
  • Arabic
  • Digital technology
  • Pedagogical innovation
  • Pastoral care

A broad range of educational topics for a diverse conference is a fitting tribute to our thriving educational system here in the UAE. This also gives delegates a wider array of choices to tailor the conference to their individual requirements.

The keynote speaker this year will be Kate Jones who is a teacher and middle leader here in the UAE at The British School Al Khubairat. Kate is also known as a blogger, podcaster and author of best selling books Love to Teach and Retrieval Practice. Kate’s keynote will discuss the research behind her books and her educational journey that lead to writing both books. Kate will also share a range of evidence informed strategies and resources that can be implemented in the classroom to positively impact teaching and learning.

While Twitter is a truly amazing digital hub for educators to discuss, support, challenge and motivate one another, why not take it a step further and attend the conference! You can sign up for the event here

On Twitter you can follow @ADTC2020 for updates regarding the event and by following the hashtag #ADTC2020. Delegates will be able to sign up to attend in the next week, so keep your eyes on the event Twitter page. I look forward to seeing you there!
